Since my post earlier this year, the world has changed1.
Time to increase my self-hosted applications, and time to up sticks and move to EU-based server providers.
Plan
I am not looking forward to this move, because I find it difficult to list all ins-and-outs, and obviously I need to read up on the workings of Hetzner, but:
- move from Digitalocean (Frankfurt) to Hetzner GER/FIN (get more info via European Alternatives)
- reinstall yunohost (reorganize all/most packages)
- set up mail server
- set up DNS/equivalent
- set up all domains/clean up domains
- move domains from one registrar to another registrar (TransIP: you really upped your prices big time!)
- read up on Varnish
- set up backup/Borg for server(s) (hetzner + yunohost)
- set up CDN/S3 storage
- reinstall yunohost (reorganize all/most packages)
- reinstall/move mastodon, incl domain Migrating to a new machine - mastodon
- move pixelfed from yunohost to seperate server with pixelfed-glitch
- how to move the database + images?
- continue all the work-in-progress, as posted in All about Taking Control
- check on pikapods apps: too much data to move to self hosted servers?
- (preferabley) save some money - DigitalOcean droplets ready to delete in 1-2 months
- write documentation on what is where and how/why for future reference

I am glad I had already started my move away from BigTech, but I want to speed up the process. ↩
