Review: The Handmaid’s Tale

The Handmaid's Tale
The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Last weekend, I finally read The Handmaid’s Tale for the first time ever. I’d seen it in my parents’ bookcase, I’d heard about in school and at university (we’re talking the late 80s and all through the 90s!), but I did not pick it up. No idea why I didn’t, but in the recent months/year, it seems that this book published in 1985 is more relevant than ever: now was a good time to finally read a modern classic.
And yes, I read this in one go: might have stayed up too late just to finish it. Gosh, I could not let go, I wanted to find out where the story would lead me. I am still pondering some of the scenes, I have recommended this book to colleagues and it’s staying with me, I hope for a long time to come.
I have no need to watch the current Netflix version, because the images the book gave me will fuel my mind’s eye just as well.
