With the office shut down for the local October 3 festivities in Leiden, I took a friend to the Haags Gemeentemuseum. Now, this is by far my most favorite museum; even without any art to showcase, it is still the most beautiful museum in the world!
We weren’t there to view a specific exhibit, but after walking around and seeing the more permanent shows (Mondriaan & De Stijl and Delftware Wonderware), there was no choice but to look at the somewhat gruesome Anatomy Lesson: From Rembrandt to Damien Hirst.
Now, I don’t care much for Damien Hirst’s installations, but one item caught my eye: gripping, alienating, futuristic. I’m glad I saw the artwork before knowing who the artist was, because I am afraid knowing it was Damien Hirst’s, I would not have appreciated it appropriately!
